Macos Catalina Gimp

Mac OS X Jaguar users need ESP GhostScript for full support. ESP Ghostscript is not required for users running Mac OS X 'Panther' or later. (source code) Gimp-Print 4.2.7 gimp-print-4.2.7-0.ppc.dmg (5.9 MB) Gimp-Print 4.2.7 is the last stable release of Gimp-Print version 4.2.x for Mac OS X; it includes 225 drivers supporting over 600 printers.

This discussion is connected to the gimp-user-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.

  1. You might be able to build a custom XML Plist Configuration Profile and manually load it on macOS Catalina without an MDM and it might work to whitelist the Apps you specify. But it's a lot of work and as of macOS 11 (10.16) Big Sur will break. Big Sur simply won't trust a Configuration Profile unless it comes from a trusted MDM.
  2. GIMP is designed for high-quality photo manipulation including retouching images and photo restorations. Users can also use it to create original artwork, a feature that many other non-Photoshop editors don’t provide (or have but it can be difficult to use).
  3. Gimp-Print 4.2.7 is the last stable release of Gimp-Print version 4.2.x for Mac OS X; it includes 225 drivers supporting over 600 printers. The disk-image file includes an OS X installer package, an uninstaller package, plus illustrated documentation to easily guide you through the printer set-up process.

Can't install on OS Catalina

Hello, Hopefully someone can walk me through this, This is a brand new MacBookand when setting it up it went into a Catalina update and here I am.. I've gotthe GIMP 2.10 installer on my desktop, I right click on it, a windows opens withGIMP 2.10.app, and that's as far as I get. I 'open' the the GIMP-2.10.app andnothing, I don't wind up with a GIMP app and literally nothing happens. No appin launchpad or finder. Greatly appreciate help!

Unless things have changed drastically in Catalina (and from what I read, they may have, and not for the better), you need to left click on the installer and when it opens drag the resulting icon onto your desktop, after which you'll get a warning about it coming from a non-Apple source and so on. Tell it to install anyway. Whereupon it will install. Or should, anyway -- Catalina seems to have broken several things, including some photo-related ones.

“Seems to have broken”..? Beta releases have been outside from months; itis hard to believe that GIMP MacOS team didn’t notice anything before.

Can't install on OS Catalina

yup. so were betas of ios 13. and it was so bad that 13.1 had to be rushed out five days later, followed almost immediately by 13.1.1, which in turn was followed by 13.1.2, and all of this in the last month. meanwhile, catalina seems to have broken a lot of things, many photo-related:

Catalina

Yes. Open GIMP; also if you cannot access e.g. Desktop files with the File → Open dialog, you can drag a Desktop file icon to the GIMP window to open it.

This is a fault of the GIMP (GTK?) File → Open dialog; in MacOS, if you try to access a “protected' directory (Downloads, Documents, Desktop, …) a requester *should* *open*, asking if you want to give your program full disk access, and transferring you to System Preferences → Security & Privacy when answering “OK”. Please, change this behaviour.

And, for what concerns the issue 'dragging the GIMP icon to the Applications directory', just dragging under MacOS on the same volume creates in Applications a soft link to the executable. If you want *move* the whole executable to Applications, use Command-Drag instead.

If you're using one of these computers with OS X Mavericks or later, you can install macOS Catalina. Your Mac also needs at least 4GB of memory and 12.5GB of available storage space, or up to 18.5GB of storage space when upgrading from OS X Yosemite or earlier. Learn how to upgrade to macOS Catalina.
